ATTENTION ALL HUMANITARIANS!
On Thursday, March 14th, Tropical Cyclone Idai made landfall on the central coast of Mozambique, where aid groups estimate that 90% of the port city of Beira has been destroyed. Winds of up to 175 km/h and widespread flooding have caused massive destruction in one of Africa’s poorest countries. Over a week after the cyclone struck, entire villages are submerged and bodies float in flood waters as the country awaits desperately needed aid. The full extent of the damage caused by the storm is still unknown as Mozambique struggles to recover.
By today’s count, more than 18,000 homes have been destroyed, 400,000 people have been displaced and the current death toll is over 750 in Mozambique alone. According to government predictions, the death toll is expected to exceed 1,000 people. Survivors are without water, food, and electricity and are facing increased risk for diseases like cholera and malaria. This humanitarian catastrophe is one of the worst to hit southern Africa in decades.
In order to raise funds to aid the victims of Cyclone Idai, I will be selling limited edition, 5” x 7” prints for the next week. I will also be auctioning off ONE large, 14” x 20” signed, matted and framed print. The bidding will start at $150 and the print will go to the highest bidder.
